Get involved
You do not need to be an expert. You need to care, and to know people.
All roles at a glance
The numbers are planning figures for how the movement could grow, not facts about where we are today.

The roles in detail
Community
Read what we publish, pass it on, and talk about it with the people around you.
Who we are looking for: everyone. Parents, pensioners, pupils, neighbours, colleagues.
You could also become: a Contributor as soon as you want to add something yourself. With an audience or a large network, you can bring your reach from here.
Contributor
Contribute what you find or make. You will not need Git: a Discord account will be enough. Until then, talk to us.
Contributors work in three areas, which call for different skills.
Research role: sources and claims
Who we are looking for: journalists, librarians, researchers, students and fact-checkers.
Everything we publish has to rest on sources. We need people who know how to find them, read them closely and weigh them against each other. Your tasks:
- Find evidence for questions we cannot yet answer with a source.
- Find counter-evidence. We ask for evidence against our statements just as much as for them. If a statement does not hold up, we rephrase it or drop it. That is a good result, not a failure.
- Compare sources where they contradict each other: which one is more credible, and why?
- Strengthen our central points with further independent evidence.
We will publish these as open research questions, phrased as questions, sorted by priority, each with a short note on what it is needed for.
Stories
Who we are looking for: writers, film-makers, illustrators, teachers and musicians.
Turn facts into stories, films and pictures that reach people. Fiction is labelled, and each story links the facts it rests on.
Translations
Who we are looking for: people who speak English and another language well.
Everything starts in English. Carry it into other languages, so that it reaches people in their own.
You could also become: a Steward once you have contributed regularly, or an Expert if you have proven expertise.
Steward
Review and adopt what others submit, and write drafts yourself. You work with our repository and our AI tools, and a human decides on every contribution.
Who we are looking for: experienced Contributors, especially editors, fact-checkers, and people comfortable with Git or willing to learn it.
You could also become: a Lead for a group or a part of our repository.
Lead
Take responsibility for a group or a part of our repository. Groups decide for themselves what works for their people.
Who we are looking for: organisers, team leads, teachers, association and community people, who keep a group going.
You could also become: a delegate to the Council, or a member of the Core Team.
Expert
Weigh sources, claims and content in your field, and say which audiences they matter for. Your name is public, and you prove your expertise.
Who we are looking for: scientists, AI researchers, lawyers, economists, doctors, educators and policy specialists.
You could also become: a reviewer of our hazard classes, which experts check before they go into the member survey.
Moderator
Keep our community spaces a place where people can disagree respectfully. You get training first.
Who we are looking for: calm people with experience in communities, forums, mediation or social work.
You could also become: a Lead, if you want to take on a group as well.
Core Team / Council
Look after the principles and policies, and coordinate. Decisions are made by consent, and people in these roles will be publicly named.
Who we are looking for: people with experience in organisations and campaigns, and the time to commit. Usually you get here after being active in other roles.

Bring your reach
If people listen to you, you can help in two ways: share our stories within your own group, or help more people find the whole organisation. Unless marked otherwise, our material is free to share under CC BY 4.0, with sources attached. We will never ask you to hide that you work with us.
